The latest from Taiwan auteur Chang Tso Chi (A Time in Quchi), Thanatos, Drunk swept seven prizes at the 17th Taipei Film Awards & four prizes at the 52nd Golden Horse Awards including Best Supporting Actress for Lu Hsueh Feng, Best New Performer for Lee Hong Chi & Best Editing. Screened in the Panorama section of the 65th Berlin International Film Festival, the dark drama traces the lives of several people in Taipeis underbelly.
Rat (Lee Hong Chi) grew up with his older brother Shang He (Huang Shang Ho) & their alcoholic mother (Lu Hsueh Feng). After Shang He moves to America for school, the family starts to drift apart. Despite his mothers disapproval, Rat seeks out trouble with buddy Shuo (Cheng Jen Shuo), a gigolo playboy with a checkered past. Meanwhile, in the States, Shang He attempts suicide after splitting with his boyfriend. Upon their mothers death, Shang He returns to Taipei & finds that Rat is now living with Shuo. An ambiguous relationship begins to develop between Shang He & Shuo. However, the gangsters that Shuo & Rat crossed in the past finally catch up with them.
