Legendary Hong Kong band Beyond star in the 1991 feature film Beyonds Diary. In the tradition of the Beatles & Wynners films, this is a story of youth & music told with the usual genre mishmash & plucky energy of 90s Hong Kong cinema. Directed by Francis Sung, Beyonds Diary marks a rare acting outing for rockers Wing Yip, Paul Wong, Steve Wong, & Wong Ka Kui, & the only time all four members have graced the big screen together. Wong Ka Kui sadly passed away two years later in 1993, making this film an important memory of the late great star. Beyonds Diary also features Hong Kong diva Faye Wong ( Chungking Express) in her film debut.
Kui (Wong Ka Kui), Keung (Steve Wong), Chung (Paul Wong), & Wing (Wing Yip) are four buddies who are all very passionate about music. Together they form a band called Beyond, but the music of youth is too often eclipsed by real world worries. In order to fulfill his familys dream of emigration, Kui works day & night to earn money, toiling himself to sickness. The ambitious Keung wants to build a successful career, but finds himself working at a shady company. Chungs childhood dream was to become a police officer, but due to his weak physique he gets shuffled to traffic control. Wing wants to study music at Hong Kong University, but his girlfriend (Faye Wong) & her parents pressure him into medicine, a field he is completely unsuited for. Can the four youths find their ways again through friendship & music?
